Our apologies to everyone who has left comments on the essays. The comments were lost when we changed our comment program on the site. The present comment program was permitting pornography and drug spamming messages to get through at such a rate we could not control it through spot deletions. The new program should protect us from spamming, but we lost the present comments in the process. Please accept our sincerest apologies, peace, Laury and Ilan Write Comment (0 Comments) |

We are proud to have three new bloggers on ProgressiveIslam.Org. Neither G. Willow Wilson or The Muslim Hedonist would call themselves Progressive. That is the point here, you know, to provide a space for voices across the spectrum of Islam. You will find that they are women who know their voices and their minds and are not afraid to use them. They complement each other. You'll see. The Dissident provides technology advice in the service of free speech. If you are afraid to speak, you can use this technology to find your voice, protect yourself, and change your world. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Ilan is going to be taking a few days to take the site down and clean it up such that whatever it is that we would not have liked to have happen will not happen at all. Just one of those cryptic tech things that are all for the good, but are best left behind a veil of secrecy. The site may be down off and on. Some pages may be incomplete for a time during the rebuild. Be patient, God wiliing and the creek don't rise, we'll be back. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Essays Section: The essays section will be a resource of published and previously unpublished essays we feel are a resource for discussion in our community. Each week we will be publishing a new essay on the front page. Previous essays will be moved to a library archive where readers can continue to access them. We debuted our essays section with Imam Zaid Shakir's call for Muslims to struggle with the demands of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights as part of a global community. We followed that with Ginan Rauf's essay on secular humanism and hypocrisy. Omid Safi's challenges for the Progressive Movement got a lot of readers. We've solicited a piece from the PMU to hear their vision as well. Hopefully we'll hear from them soon. This week we have a selection from Michael Muhammad Knight's forthcoming book, Blue-Eyed Devil, and the week after that we'll have a poetic analysis of gender in the Qur'an by poet Robert Doto. Beyond Forum: The Beyond Forum is a site for discussing real world religious issues in the imagined context of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculative fiction, films, and television. It's been a bit slow lately. Nearly everyone on the forum is an academic and it's been the end of the semester. It'll liven back up. Webspaces: We've offered creative webspace to our contributors. Each one will have their own front page that links to any on-line resources they want to make use of such as wikis, blogs, and forums. Write Comment (0 Comments) |
